According to Paul, Abraham was considered righteous through his faith in God’s promise of blessing long before he was circumscribed or the law was given. Abraham’s faith by which he believed God and was made righteous was faith in the preexistent Christ who would come in the future. In this sense, anyone who has faith is the true descendent of Abraham and participates in the blessing of righteousness together with Abraham. This truth is the gospel that God gave to Abraham in advance before the historical period of the gospel actually arrived.
